This winery was established in 1998 by former high school teachers. The winery is located in Genoa, Illinois and although when thinking of wineries, Illinois is not a state that comes to mind, it does have over 100 wineries. The Prairie Pumpkin is a late summer early fall release that usually sells out quickly and is a favorite among customers.

Not being a huge fan of fruit flavored wines, I admittedly really enjoy this wine especially this time of year. It has a burst of Granny Smith apples and candy corn with a forward pumpkin flavor and tart finish. The wine is not overly sweet and has a nice balance of acidity. This wine definitely reminds me of fall and would be a great wine to enjoy while preparing dinner or enjoying a Halloween movie.

I love autumn. Falling leaves, crisp air, apple pie, cinnamon sticks, sweatpants, football, you get it. And if you like those things as much as I do, you will love this wine from Prairie State Winery. Pretty much guaranteed. There is not much to elaborate on, if you read the first sentence, you probably can get a feel/idea of what this wine tastes like (minus the sweatpants and football…just setting the fall scene there!).
Visually, this fruit wine is clear and crisp, with hues of pale honey and bright straw. As soon as you open the bottle, you will enjoy scents of apple pie crisp and the full and bold flavors you taste when you take that first sip include pumpkin, nutmeg, cinnamon and apple pie. Every single sip is crisp and satisfying, from glass one to the end of the bottle. I make a point, every year, of enjoying this local fruit wine. It smells fantastic, it tastes like liquid dessert and the finish leaves a pleasant and light taste on your tongue. It has become one of my favorite fall wines, hands down.
